Youth Group Mission Statement: Our goal is for all teens (and pre-teens) to feel welcome and able to explore their faith, and how it relates to the world around them, in a safe and open environment, while growing in community with each other, and reaching out to our church, community, nation, and world to be the hands and feet of Christ. ALL ARE WELCOME!
We provide our middle and high school youth with many opportunities for personal growth, Christian education, healthy and enjoyable social interaction, and active exploration and expression of Christian faith. Check out our offerings below!
What's Up My Jude?: Once a month we meet for Middle School Faith & Bible Study, virtually. Previously known as the 6th and the 7th Grade Class, we explore topics that pertain to our life and faith, using scripture as our foundation. Based in a UCC curriculum, we cover topics from the timeline of the church to how we live as Christians today.
Sermon Talk Back: Have you heard some of the sermons that come out of the First Church pulpit each week? Once a month we make time to watch Rev. Dallas', Rev. Marisa's, or guest's sermons, together we dive into conversation. Noting points that bring us questions, and voicing the words that are equally our truth. In covenant together, we allow for all ideas and beliefs to be shared.
The Joel Point: Twice a month we host our High School Youth Group on Zoom. Using our faith as our foundation, we hold space for pure fun and shenanigans, and equally a place for conversation and exploration. Together with our youth, we uphold a supportive environment for all.
Mark My Word: Happening every fifth Sunday of any month, we read and talk it out! After reading a chosen book, we meet on Zoom for our Book Study. Sometimes sacred and sometimes secular, these books cover a variety of topics from nerdy to funny. Read on your time, and join us to share.
Where We Are Called: While remaining virtual we explore what service means, and how we can have a positive impact in our immediate world around us. Once a month we meet shortly on Zoom to challenge our students to a Service Project that they can complete in their homes, or safely in their family units.
Creative Ruthfulness: Do you know that we have so many talented people a part of our Church family? From writers, photographers, and artists, once a month we host Art Nights. Virtually together we explore different mediums and modes of art. By RSVPing to Khaleigh Laicher the week of, you sign up for supplies to be brought to you!
Youth are also welcome to participate in the other ministries of the church, including singing with a choir, playing in the bell choir, teaching Sunday School, greeting and ushering, and serving as a youth member of the Board of Deacons, to name just a few.
