About The Event

The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd (2020) https://suemonkkidd.com/books/the-book-of-longings/

a work of historical fiction centering on an imagined wife of Jesus of Nazareth

Join Pastor Marisa to read together a new book by Sue Monk Kidd, award-winning author of The Secret Life of Bees, Travelling with Pomegranates, and more. In this book, Sue Monk Kidd considers the human life of Jesus based on scriptural and ancient non-canonical writings about him, as seen through the eyes of a creative, faith-filled 1st century woman who loves him. This story is well researched and reverential, beautifully told and sure to bring to life for us our own wonderings about who Jesus may really have been on this earth, and will surely evoke sharing of our own longings for meaning and the holy in this life!

Pastor Marisa will bring many of the bible passages and ancient writing excerpts that Sue Monk Kidd is referring to in her book to deepen the experience, as well as share a Study Guide and Q&A from the author herself.

There will be four opportunities to meet and discuss a section of the book, and you can come for any or all four:

Two Sundays in the Afternoon:

Sunday, February 21st @ 2pm:  Part 1 Sepphoris

Sunday, March 21st @ 2pm: Part 3 Alexandria

Two Wednesday Evenings:

Wednesday, March 10th 7pm: Part 2 Nazareth

Wednesday, March 31st @ 7pm: Part 4 Jerusalem & beyond

All gatherings will be held on Zoom (contact office@firstchurchlongmeadow.org for the zoom link or for a copy of the book.)  We will have copies of the book in the church office starting Tuesday, February 16th that we can make available for pick up or delivery! One of our members will be glad to drop it off to you at your home so you can join us! Donations welcome up to $14 for your copy.
